Need some inspiration in your life? I thought I would share some travel inspiration for a girlfriend or perhaps a mother/daughter getaway. Being a former travel agent and living in New England I have been lucky enough to travel around quite a bit. I am excited to share my all time favorite, Kennebunport!
Can you only get away for a few days? Kennebunkport is the perfect place to melt all your stresses away and get inspired. Summer & Fall are my favorite times in Maine but there is plenty to do and see any time of the year
For a perfect weekend getaway, here are some must do/see/eats:
You are probably thinking where should I stay?
The options are endless from lovely boutique inns, charming cottage rentals or fancy resorts. I always like to search on google and see if anyone is offering any weekend specials. Just type in kennebunkport/time you are traveling/weekend specials. If you are flexible with your date you may get lucky and find some properties that offer a discount. Peak time of course will be harder to find a special but think positive and you may have a lucky me moment while planning your trip! One of my favorite hotels in the area is the Captain Jeffers Inn, an elegant and charming bed & breakfast. It is located in a lovely quiet neighborhood yet is a very short walk to the shops in Dock Square & they have a gourmet breakfast what else could you ask for right?
Now you have arrived in Kennebunport & you ask yourself where should i begin my vacation?
I suggest waking up early and heading out your door to one of the many fabulous beaches the area has to offer including Kennebunk, Mothers, Gooch’s, Goose Rocks & one of my favorites Arundel Beach. Arundel Beach is just off Ocean Avenue (also known as Colony Beach) its a real hidden gem right across the road from the Old Colony Hotel. You can drive right up no beach pass required and watch the gorgeous sunrise. If you are in a sightseeing mood and like taking long walks I highly recommend heading back to Ocean Avenue where you can see St. Ann’s Church which offers amazing views of the Ocean and a peak of the Bush estate at Walkers Point.
If you are like me and perhaps you want to see what the shops have to offer you can head in the other direction of Ocean Avenue towards downtown where your retail therapy begins to take effect! Every type of shop imaginable is here from quaint jewelry & t-shirt shops to fun & whimsical artists boutiques. One of my favorite is Beach Grass. They have the best decor & accessories with fun quotes like “Today I am happier than a seagull with a French fry”, how cute is that?
Did you hear that? Its my stomach growling which means its time to eat! The downtown area offers an array of great restaurants from the quick on the go The Clam Shack with their mouth watering lobster roll or if you prefer a sit down meal I recommend Davids Restaurant with their amazing hand cut truffle fries & baked haddock where you can sit on their deck & watch a beautiful sunset. No matter what your guilty pleasure is Kennebunkport is sure to satisfy your craving.
Have a question about kennebunkport and how to plan your trip? Send me a note, I will happily respond!
